Don't Just Be Part of the Journey. Help Lead It.
State Officers are the student voice and face of Educators Rising South Dakota. They represent our members, lead alongside other future educators, and help shape the experiences that move our organization forward.
This Is Leadership With a Purpose.
When you become a State Officer, you become part of something bigger than yourself. You help represent future educators from across South Dakota. You welcome members, help lead statewide experiences, connect with education leaders, and use your voice to share why the future of education matters. You help set the tone for our organization.
We're Looking for Leaders.
You don't have to walk into this experience as a finished leader. We are looking for students who are ready to grow, serve, communicate, work as a team, represent others, and show up when it matters.
What Does a State Officer Year Look Like?
Leadership happens throughout the year. From summer training to the State Conference stage, each experience helps your team grow together and prepares you to represent our members well.
June → February
These are the major experiences State Officers can expect throughout their year of service.
Summer Officer Training
Two days focused on becoming a stronger leader, understanding your role, building relationships with fellow State Officers, and preparing for the year ahead.
Educators Rising National Conference
Represent South Dakota on the national stage and connect with future educators from across the country while experiencing Educators Rising at the national level.
SDEA Summer Conference Optional
An additional opportunity to connect with educators, education leaders, and the professional community you are preparing to join.
Team Training + Professional Photo Shoot
The officer team comes back together for approximately 1.5 days to prepare for the year, strengthen the team, plan for upcoming experiences, and complete the State Officer professional photo shoot.
Fall Leadership
One of your first major opportunities to lead our members. Help bring the energy, welcome students from across South Dakota, and set the tone for the year ahead.
Capitol Experience
Travel to Pierre and represent Educators Rising South Dakota while experiencing state government and connecting with leaders.
State Conference
Bring the year together at our statewide conference. Help lead, welcome, celebrate, and inspire members while representing Educators Rising South Dakota on one of our biggest stages.
These are the major commitments State Officers can expect. Additional meetings, speaking opportunities, projects, special events, and leadership experiences may be added depending on the year.
YOU BECOME THE VOICE.
State Officers have an opportunity few high school students get — the chance to help represent an entire statewide organization and the students who are part of it.
The Opportunity Is Big. So Is the Responsibility.
Serving as a State Officer is exciting, but it is also a commitment. Officers are expected to participate in trainings, conferences, planning, communication, and the responsibilities that come with representing a statewide organization.
Before applying, students should consider their school schedule, activities, athletics, employment, and other commitments and make sure they are ready to make State Office a priority.
Are You Ready to Step Up?
Leadership isn't about having all the answers. It's about being willing to serve, show up, grow, work with your team, and represent something bigger than yourself. If you're ready to use your voice and represent future educators across South Dakota, State Office may be your next step.
